Introduction
Thank you for choosing Cake – Birthday Reminders. We're committed to protecting your privacy while helping you remember the birthdays that matter most. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our app.
The Simple Truth
- Everything stays on your device: Cake works completely offline and never transmits your data anywhere.
- No tracking or analytics: We don't monitor how you use the app or collect usage data.
- No third-party sharing: Your information is never shared with anyone.
- You're in control: You can delete your data anytime or revoke permissions through iOS Settings.
1. What Information We Access
1.1 Contact Information
When you grant permission, Cake accesses your contacts to find birthday information. iOS lets you choose to share all contacts or limit the selection. We import whatever you choose to share, including:
- Names and birthday dates
- Contact photos (if available)
- Contact identifiers to link back to your address book
1.2 What We Store Locally
All information is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework:
- Birthday entries and custom notes
- Your notification and display preferences
- Blacklisted contacts (contact ID, name, and photo only - the minimum needed to prevent re-importing)
- Tags, categories, and sorting preferences
Important: Nothing is encrypted beyond your device's built-in security, and nothing ever leaves your device.
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 Core Functionality
We use your contact data to:
- Display upcoming birthdays in personalized lists
- Send you local notifications for birthdays you don't want to miss
- Let you organize and filter your birthday reminders
2.2 Blacklist Protection
When you blacklist a contact, we store minimal information (ID, name, photo) to ensure they won't be re-imported if you grant access to additional contacts later.
3. Your Control Over Data
3.1 Permission Management
You control all permissions through iOS Settings:
- Contacts: Can be granted, limited, or revoked anytime
- Notifications: Can be enabled, customized, or disabled
3.2 When You Revoke Contact Access
If you revoke contacts permission, previously imported birthday data stays in the app. When you tap on someone, you'll see a prompt explaining the broken connection. You can then:
- Re-enable contacts to restore the connection
- Keep the person in Cake but disconnect from contacts
- Delete them entirely from the app
3.3 Deleting Your Data
To remove all your data:
- Use the "Clear All Data" function in the app's settings
- Delete the app entirely, which removes all stored information
4. Third-Party Components
4.1 Libraries We Use
Cake includes these carefully selected third-party components that enhance your experience:
- AlertToast: For friendly notification messages
- ConfettiSwiftUI: For birthday celebration animations
- Lottie: For smooth, delightful animations
- PhoneNumberKit: For proper phone number formatting
All libraries operate within the app's secure environment and respect the same privacy principles - no data collection or transmission.
5. In-App Purchases
5.1 Cosmetic Features
Cake offers optional cosmetic feature unlocks that enhance your experience:
- Additional themes and visual customizations
- Enhanced celebration animations
- Premium styling options
5.2 Purchase Privacy
For in-app purchases:
- All transactions are processed securely through Apple's payment system
- No payment information is stored within Cake
- Purchase data doesn't change our offline-only approach
6. Children's Privacy
Cake is not directed at children under 13. Since all data stays on your device, parents and guardians control access by managing the app installation and permissions.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. You'll be notified of material changes through:
- App Store update notes
- In-app notifications when relevant
8. Contact and Support
Since Cake operates entirely offline with no data transmission, there's typically no need for data-related support. If we add contact mechanisms in future updates, they'll be described in an updated Privacy Policy.
9. Legal Compliance
9.1 California Privacy Rights
Under California privacy laws, residents may request information about data sharing for marketing purposes. Since Cake doesn't share any data with third parties, these provisions don't apply.
9.2 International Users
Cake complies with global privacy regulations including GDPR and CCPA. Since all processing happens locally on your device with no data transfers, most cross-border data protection requirements don't apply.
